What the public record says
Deck is being constructed on deck previously constructed under bldg. permit # 1172020. I am installing a 10x13 Louvered pergola on my existing 12x14 deck. I am attaching the pergola to my deck safely, I will bolt the support posts directly to the under-deck framing (joists or beams). Step-by-Step Installation Locate the joists: Find where the deck joist runs by looking underneath the deck. Add blocking: cut pressure-treated lumber (like 2x8s) to fit snugly between the joists and screw them in place to create solid attachment points. Position post bases: Place my heavy-duty metal post brackets or base plates on the deck surface where the posts will go. Use through-bolts: Drill holes through the deck boards and the blocking or joists below, then secure the base plates using 1/2-inch stainless steel or galvanized through-bolts, washers, and nuts on the underside. Set and plumb posts: Insert your vertical posts into the secured base brackets and use a level to ensure they are straight and plumb in every direction before tightening completely. Build the frame: Attach your main support beams, rafters, and shade slats following your specific pergola kit or building plan instructions.
